Hybrids and EVs have 2 braking systems that they use: Hydraulic and Regenerative
Regenerative Braking gives the battery energy back that would normally be released as heat. This is usually the vehicles first choice for braking during “Normal” braking. They use sensors, modules and actuators to determine which braking system to use. This is used to help the battery maintain a charge. The brake pads will last longer, but still need to be checked periodically.
Hydraulic Braking is used during normal braking, heavy braking and holding the vehicle still. The majority of the components will be the same as a non-hybrid/electric vehicle. This means that they will need to be lubricated just as a non-hybrid/electric vehicle.
