Overview

When you purchase parts or purchase inexpensive cut gaskets, their ability to seal may not be sufficient enough. RTV Gasket makers are engineered to replace conventional cut gaskets, not supplement them. When properly applied, RTV Gasket Makers cure into a thick, formed-in-place silicone rubber gasket that seals the joint on its own.

WHY?

Applying RTV Gasket Maker in addition to a cut gasket creates excess material between the mating flanges, which can:
  • Prevent proper clamping load and flange contact
  • Create leak paths from uneven compression
  • Cause gasket blowout or RTV gasket maker squeeze-out during torque
  • Alter designed joint thickness and alignment

Best Practice

Use either a cut gasket or RTV gasket maker—never both together—unless explicitly specified by the OEM service procedure.
